- avalanche types & formation
- terrain negotiation
- Avalanche Terrain Exposure Scale (ATES)
- route finding
- information gathering
- terrain ratings
- using the Avaluator
- trip planning
- introduction to transceiver training
- safe riding habits
- introduction to companion rescue

The field session features hands on training including:
- trailhead procedures
- terrain features
- using the Avaluator
- route finding
- safe group travel
- transceiver, probe & shovel training
- snow profile & stability tests
- companion rescue scenarios

You also receive a Hangfire Avalanche Training AST level 1 certificate acknowledging you have completed your avalanche skills training.
