You may join on to the 2nd day of any AST 1 course on our schedule to complete the field day portion of your AST 1 training and complete the course!
For a field session in any alternative location, the start time and schedule can be flexible according to your requirements subject to a minimum group size.

To attend a field session, all participants must have attended an AST 1 Classroom Session.
The field session features hands on training including:
- trailhead procedures
- terrain features
- using the Avaluator
- route finding
- safe group travel
- transceiver, probe & shovel training
- snow profile & stability tests
- companion rescue scenarios
Upon completion of this course you will have the skills necessary to perform a lead role in a rescue, be aware of hazards, gather information on safe trip planning, basic knowledge of avalanche formation, travel, and rescue.
You also receive a Hangfire Avalanche Training AST level 1 certificate acknowledging you have completed your training.
